AUTUMN TERM NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents
Welcome back to the new term and new school year. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to our new pupils and parents. The new children (and new staff) have settled down well to life at St.David’s and look forward to the year ahead.
Below are dates for your diary for the forthcoming term. From time to time some dates will change or other events added to the diary but you will be informed of any changes in good time.
Please could parents who drop off and collect children at school by car ensure that the bus lay-by (and the entrance and exit to it) are kept clear at the start and end of each day. This is not only to help the bus driver but to also to ensure the safety of children getting on and off the bus. For safety reasons could you also ensure that you do not park across the entrance to the school. I have also been contacted by concerned residents from Maes-y-Bryn who have complained about parents parking across their driveways. I appreciate that parking is an issue outside school but I would ask you to please consider the residents of Colwinston when you park your cars.
INSET
SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS
Each school is required to take seven statutory staff training days this school year. Two have already been taken this term and, as you have already been informed, two further INSET days have been planned for this term:
Thursday 1st. & Friday 23rd. October 2009
Contd.
Another day is planned for Monday 12th. April, whilst
two further dates will take place during a school holiday.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
As you are aware the school uniform is now sold at Jensens Sport shop in Cowbridge. However, we still sell from school draw string P.E. bags, Reading Book/Homework bags and base-ball caps. All these items have the school logo on them and are available for purchase at anytime. The cost of these items is as follows:
P.E. Bag: £2.00 Reading Book Bag: £3.00
Base-ball Cap: £3.00
Embroidered Fleece Beanie Hats and Scarves: £3.50 each
LEAVING YOUR CHILD AT SCHOOL / LATE ARRIVALS / ABSENCES
Two members of staff will be on duty in the school yard from 8:50 a.m. each morning. I would like to encourage parents to leave the yard when these teachers take up their duty in order that the bell can be rung promptly at 9:00 a.m. The yard does get very congested in the morning and this would help the teachers to organize the children into their lines quickly and efficiently to go into class. The gate will then be locked by the school caretaker as soon as the pupils are in class.
If your child turns up late for school you must report to the main entrance, as the doors to the classrooms and playground gate will be locked once the pupils are in class. Late arrivals now have to be recorded on the class registers, and those pupils who regularly arrive late will be contacted by the school’s Education Welfare Officer to discuss the matter.
If your child is ill or is unable to attend school for whatever reason, you must notify school as soon as possible to explain the absence. If no reason is given or if no contact made with the school, the absence will be recorded as “unauthorised” on the class register.

We are also collecting for re-cycling, unwanted mobile phones; these too can be deposited in a designated box in the foyer.

If your child has peripatetic music tuition, the tutors are in on the following days:
Monday – Guitar – Mr.Ellis Brass – Mr. Matthews
Tuesday – Woodwind – Mrs. Belcher
Friday (a.m.) – Keyboard – Mrs. Matheson
(p.m.) – Violin – Miss Lewis
Please could you ensure that your child has his/her instrument and music with them on the appropriate day.
CODE OF DRESS
Attached to this newsletter are two lists detailing our school uniform and the required dress for PE and games. It would be much appreciated if all children could adhere to the requirements.
